Love Survives

"Life is eternal everywhere love endures"

Mountain ranges high and wide divide a broken land

Rivers deep and strong rage across the roads

Deserts desolate and bleak are filled with burning sand

Heavy are the packs; unwieldy are the loads

Seeking sheltered ground, I cross the barren plains

Strewn with fences built to halt the roadway through

But I march on through the heat, the winds, the pouring rain

What force nature could keep me from reaching you?

Let the seasons change – summer burn, the winter freeze

Let there come what may before my heart arrives

Let the wild world burden me and drive me to my knees

As long as you await me, love survives

Cities fall before me, ruined and neglected

Wreaking with despair and rotting from inside

Danger lurks in every seam, but I’m directed

By a love that serves my spirit as its guide

futzed with obsessively by Rick Thorne

Let creations fail – the bridges fall, the buildings tumble

Leaving many dashed and desperate lives

All our species builds one day may crash and crumble

But as long as we’re together, love survives

Rivers roll and deserts burn and mountains reach

But who might listen to the lessons they might teach?

Voiceless souls they are springing from the soil

What lessons do they bring to our mortal coil?

Cities grow as human hands build tomorrow

Temporary joy crumbling into sorrow

Time may be eternal, but history assures

Life is eternal everywhere love endures

Time rolls on before us, cold and never out of stride

Dragging us along like fragile toys

Let’s sing together on the time march side by side

In harmony to life’s eternal noise

Let the clock tick on, in tireless oscillation

Let its hands slash round like turning knives

But in our mortal breath, we have eternal consolation

Even time can’t change that love survives
